Cross the border – Sundsvall to the boreal rainforests in Tröndelag, Norway
A limited number of seats are available and order of registration will be used for selecting participants. In case less than 10 participants register the excursion will be cancelled. Please send an e-mail to field (at) prifor2010.org to register for this pre-conference excursion. Registrations for the pre-conference excursion must be sent before May 15th 2010.
The Scandinavian boreal rainforest is a special forest type confined to a small area in Tröndelag, Norway. In total the area that could be defined as rainforest comprises less than 800 km2 out of which only a minority remain in natural conditions. Due to the high rainfall, these forests harbor a unique biodiversity. The excursion will show some of the best examples of this forest type. In addition the excursion will bring participants cross the Scandinavian Peninsula and also provide examples of mountain forests and other forest with high natural values.
The excursion will start in Sundsvall on Thursday (early morning) August 5th and travel across Sweden (Medelpad and Jämtland regions), over the Scandinavian mountain range and down to the Norwegian coast with a chartered bus. During Friday and Saturday excursions to valuable and interesting sites in the Namsdalen area will be held. On Sunday the bus will take you back to Sundsvall. Shorter excursions will also be made during the travel days.
Cost is estimated at maximum 400 Euro (may be lower, - to be finally settled during the coming month), including bus, accommodation and full board during the stay in Norway. Costs for coffee, lunch and dinner during the travel days (Thursday and Sunday) will be paid separately.
